 23. WAYS OF NOTATING SONGS:

There are many ways of notating music, as the system of music that is followed by people is different throughout the world. The most common systems that are used in India as we had seen are

1.      Carnatic system

2.      Hindustani System and

3.      Western System

Ø  In the Carnatic system of music, the notes are notated as Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni, and the variations of the swara (note) is denoted by numbers. The time signature is denoted at the top and the notes are aligned in equal measures according to the time signature. The Pitch of the song is denoted by a number or the Western note and the notes are mentioned by its raga.

Ø  In the Hindustani system of music, the notes are notated as Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni, and the variations of the swara (note) is denoted by Capital and small letters. In the Carnatic system, the time signature is denoted at the top and the notes are aligned in equal measures according to the time signature. The Pitch of the song is denoted by a number or the Western note and the notes are mentioned by its raga.

Ø  In the Western system of music, the notes are notated using symbols in the Score sheet that contains five lines, four spaces, and the ledger lines. The time signature is mentioned in the beginning and the notes are aligned in equal intervals as bars. The variations of the notes are notated at the beginning of the staff, through which the Scale can be identified, seeing the last note of the staff along with that.

Ø  Other than these ways of notating there can be Numbered music notation, Notation using Key signatures, etc.
